Maxim Havlíček: Anima Mundi at Galerie Mánes

At Galerie Mánes, Maxim Havlíček (b. 1974, Prague) presents his latest cycle, Anima Mundi—including a seven-metre canvas created specifically for this space—in which calligraphic gesture is transformed into an abstract record. Havlíček does not use writing as a vehicle for meaning, but as pure movement. For him, the canvas is not an image of an object, but rather the trace of an event. His gestures are larger than the gaze that is meant to encompass them. The eye does not settle on a single point in the painting, but follows the movement of the hand. In this way, the viewer’s fixed position—where they stand in relation to what they see—dissolves.

The Art Foundation has been established: an institution supporting Czech fine art

The Art Foundation has been established. A new institution whose motto is a play on words: “Art Changes Me". The Foundation aims to give Czech fine art the visibility it deserves: to support its development, discover new talents and make high-quality artworks accessible to the wider public. It seeks to fill the empty spaces where art is missing: it will carry out its own exhibition projects, provide scholarships to young artists and cooperate with major cultural institutions in the Czech Republic.
The founder of the Foundation is the owner of the Kaprain investment group, art collector and patron Karel Pražák. “Fine art opens new horizons and enriches our lives in ways that cannot be measured. I would like this foundation to help as many people as possible discover the beauty and power of art, and to do so sooner than I was fortunate enough to. Because art changed my life and my view of the world too," said Karel Pražák.
